We very pleased to have been awarded STARS Gold Level STARS 2018-19.

STARS is TfL’s accreditation scheme for London schools and nurseries. STARS inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling.

STARS supports pupils’ wellbeing, helps to reduce congestion at the school gates and improve road safety and air quality. TfL’s STARS accreditation scheme inspires young Londoners to think differently about travel and its impact on their health, wellbeing and the environment.

Elmwood Junior School has worked extremely hard to promote active travel across the school.  Part of the award recognises the work of our six appointed Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs) from year 5 and year 6 who work to promote active travel and road safety to their peers through a range of activities.  This includes presenting assemblies across the school, helping to select winners from competition entries and delivering the monthly WOW badges to each class. In addition, we have built aspects of active travel into the curriculum through stand-alone lessons, PSHE and P.E activities. The whole school has participated in a variety of sporting events such as Soccer Aid Playground Challenge and the Mile Challenge from which the children benefit greatly and really enjoy.
