Circus Skills

The circus came to Elmwood as a ‘Gold’ group end of term treat on the 12th, 13th and 14th of February. Below, the pupils of 6W can be seen taking part in a host of circus-based activities.

Anne Frank Exhibition

All Year 6 classes attended the Anne Frank Trust UK Exhibition at Croydon Central Library during the week beginning Monday 10th February. Pupils toured around the Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibition, which focuses on Anne’s life and the Rise of the Nazis. Trip to Kensington Palace

On Tuesday 11th February over a hundred Elmwood pupils visited Kensington Palace- the birthplace of Queen Victoria. Through exploring the palace, the pupils learned about the vast history and importance of the residence through the ages. They looked at journals, paintings and objects to explore how Victoria trained for the position of queen.

Soundstart Concerts

George Knowland 2020 Awards

Congratulations to Amber and Shaheer on winning the George Knowland Award 2020. This special event was attended by The Deputy Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Maddie Henson, David Justice of the Commando Association, Reverand George Parsons, Chad Carress of The Royal British Legion and many other guests.

Book Week 2020: Fancy Dress Parade

Seventy-three Elmwood pupils from all year groups attended the Young Writers Awards at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on Friday 17th January. Cressida Cowell, author of the best-selling ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘The Wizards of Once’, gave an inspirational talk and imparted lots of writing advice. Mayoral Ambassadors

Five Elmwood pupils have been chosen to be Mayoral Ambassadors. Cameron, Amber, Kapinaya, Vedanth and Akshara will contribute fundraising ideas for the Mayor’s chosen charities: Mind in Croydon, Croydon Vision, Apasen International, Ashdon Jazz Academy and the Croydon Refugee Day Centre.

Stories on Values Competition

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to all the pupils, parents and carers who visited the school hall on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd of December to look at the books on offer from Scholastic. A special ‘thank you’ should also go to Fatimah, Safiyah, Hifza and Seerisha who made and sold bookmarks for charity.

Remembrance Day Service

We are honoured to be the only school in Croydon to be invited every year to attend the commemoration service that was held at Croydon’s War Memorial in Katherine Street on Monday, 11th November 2019.  Twenty pupils from Year 6 attended the service and laid their crosses at the monument. Cinema Trip!

All children in Gold and Silver Behaviour Reward Groups were treated to a trip to the cinema during the week beginning Monday 11th November. Over five hundred seats were filled by pupils, staff and parents. The films: ‘Missing Link’ and ‘A Dog’s Way Home’ at the Vue Cinemas at Purley Way and Croydon Grants Building, were enjoyed by all.

Year 6 : HMS Belfast Trip
