Elmwood School Team at CPFC Foundation Tournament
On Monday 5th February, the school team also competed against some of the best schools in Croydon at Selhurst Sports Arena. The team started well, recording a 1-0 vistory and following it up with a 1-1 draw in what was a very tight game against The Crescent. Unfortunately a further draw and 2 defeats left us just missing out on qualifying for the next round. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the cold weather! A special mention to Cayden who scored 4 goals in the tournament, 3 of which were from outside of the area. Fantastic!
Elmwood Girls’ Team at CPFC Foundation Tournament
Yesterday, on the 29th January, the girls football team headed to Selhurst Sports Arena to participate in an under 11’s tournament run by Crystal Palace Football Club Foundation. Despite having to get to school a bit earlier, the girls were absolutely thrilled to get their brand new school football kits on and represent Elmwood Junior School. They played four qualifying matches, and with bright attitudes, drew two games and won one. Rhianna-Marie and Khadeejah scored great goals, and all the girls were very excited to celebrate as a team. Eighteen schools attended this tournament with fantastic teams ready to compete. Our girls football team did brilliantly, and demonstrated incredible sportsmanship, maturity and an incredible attitude to challenge themselves and improve their skills. Well done girls! Keep up this incredible effort for your match next week!

Elmwood edge Gonville in tight affair
Monday 20th November 2017
On a dark, cold Monday afternoon, Elmwood came out victorious against Gonville in their third league match of the season. Due to transport issues, Elmwood started with less players and the players put in an outstanding performance to keep the game at 0 – 0.
After coming back to full strength, Elmwood began to dominate the ball and went ahead early in the second half through a bullet finish from winger Cayden. Elmwood held on for a much needed victory and another clean sheet.
Elmwood 1 – 0 Greenvale
Elmwood through to second round of cup
Thursday 19th October 2017
In front of their home crowd for the first time this season, Elmwood were looking to impress and make it through the second round of the Primary Cup. The game was a tight affair, with both sides struggling to create clear chances on goal.
Elmwood’s passing began to improve as the game developed, despite the rain and wind. Mid way through the second half, Cayden opened the scoring with a trademark drilled shot to the left hand corner of the goal. The home crowd were delighted!
It was a very tense ending to the game, with Greenvale throwing everything at the Elmwood goal. Fortunately for the home side, the boys hung on and are through to the second round of the cup.
St. James 2 – 0 Elmwood (League Result)
Elmwood struggle to create chances
Monday 16th October 2017
Elmwood have fallen to defeat in their second league game of the season. It was an evenly matched opening, with both teams pressurising the ball with speed and numbers. Just before half time, Elmwood were unlucky not to open the scoring. A great strike from Dylan hit the crossbar and bounced on the goal line – no goal given!
In the second half, St. James began to dominate play. Elmwood continued to work hard without the ball but they were struggling to create chances. Eventually, St. James took the lead and just before the end of play, they doubled that lead.
The boys were disappointed with the defeat but look forward to playing again very soon against Greenvale in the Primary Cup.
Whitehorse 0 – 2 Elmwood (League Result)
Elmwood in strong start to the season
Wednesday 4th October 2017
Elmwood have kicked off the football season with a comfortable 2 – 0 victory against Whitehorse Manor. Elmwood started quickly, pressing the ball high up the pitch and this paid off as winger Durell made it 1 – 0 with a close range finish. The team from Lodge Road were hungry for more goals and it was not long before midfielder Dylan put Elmwood in a commanding position, two goals in front before half time.
Whitehorse did have a greater amount of the ball in the second half and Elmwood’s defence had to work hard for their clean sheet. The boys can be proud of their hard work and the team now look to carry their impressive display into their upcoming league and cup fixtures.
