Spring Term

Geography-History Week

Once again we held the annual Geography and History week and with the help of 4 Year 5 children, we launched the week during our whole school assembly on Monday. Every year group was designated a specific historical era related to a part of the world. This year we continued to learn about the updated National Curriculum units and made them culturally relevant to the children at Elmwood Junior School.

Year 3 – The Maya Civilisation

Year 4 – Ancient Greece

Year 5 – Kingdom of Benin

Year 6 – Early Islamic Civilisation

The themed week was planned as a cross-curricular project with strong links between art and ICT. During the week, pupils practised and developed specific skills and participated in a quiz; one lower school quiz and one upper school quiz. The teams were compiled of children from each year group that represented their house. The work created has been created and is currently on display on the top corridor.

Rollapaluza

Rollapaluza is a cycle sport like no other. Participants battle it out on bikes over a sprint distance at speeds in excess of 50mph. This is accompanied by music, an MC and cheering crowds. On Thursday 28th March Elmwood pupils had the chance to battle it out for themselves. The event was enjoyed by all and we would like to thank Miss McManus for organising it!
